to start to build your jigsaw puzzle.
Ok, so here’s where you can start to do the work about getting on top of your anxiety and depression. It’s at this point that I would like to state that it takes a village to raise a child, so let the new village help the adult. There’s no one-fix solution. Medication is an excellent positive action if you are suicidal and the dark thoughts are consuming your every day.
The name of the game is keeping you here.
Next: start to build from where you can. What spurred on the depression? Have a think about anything that showed up in your day. Again, a reminder, triggers are triggers, no matter how they show up. So say someone spells your name wrong on some- thing. That might create a trigger from one day when you were at Starbucks and it was a particularly hard day. The barista spelled your name wrong on the cup and it just added into the chemical shit storm mindset that no one cares enough to even know how to spell your name. For you with the anxiety and depression, this is a very REAL emotional burden. For another person who hasn’t lived your story it’s like a ‘meh, they spelt my name wrong. Pfft’.
It’s YOUR story, it’s all valid.
Then start to piece together where other incidents have shown up in your life and soon enough you will start to see the patterns.
A great technique I encourage with clients going through the mill with their depression and anxiety is to get the biggest sketch block you can with nice thick paper and some pens that you like writing with. Then you sit there and you start writing out quick memories all over the sheet in front of you.
It doesn’t have to have any order. Then with another colored pen, draw a box around the memory so it becomes a single moment. As you do that, you’ll then have the ability to draw lines to the boxes or number the boxes – however you want to create your own dot puzzle and then you can see the strings that might have formed the paint strokes on your canvas that I was referring to earlier.
If you are really stuck to find the patterns, that’s where you can find someone like me who can have a fresh set of eyes to help you join the dots.
What this exercise does is to give you permission to understand why you feel so shit. Then with awareness you can take more positive actions to start clearing the shit out for good and as you start to feel better start to come off your medication.
It was a journey to where you find yourself today.
So, you know how in the movie when Dorothy set off for Emerald City on the yellow brick road? The starting point there, there was a red brick road too. Hopefully what I’ve offered you today is a ticket on that other road which leads to a world of peace and happiness and you get to be the king or queen of your castle at the other end.
Before I go, I recommend the trio of health when it comes to your health management. That is Chemical, Structural and Emotional. I will also throw in another one for no charge and extend that to the healthy four which includes Spiritual in there too. When you understand soul agreements, often it’s like the biggest breath out you’ll have where the Stress Fairy is concerned. All those grown-ups who painted your picture and they weren’t able to make the piece look happy through their own life’s journey, there’s no need to blame. It’s all about awareness, which pro- vides space for acceptance, which provides that red brick road to start the work. Here in Australia we often joke that red is the best color, because anything red goes faster. Get on that red brick road!
Here’s the break down:
Chemical: What you put in your mouth. This includes food – make sure you don’t have food intolerances messing with your body chemistry too. Medication and nutritional supplements. If you happen to have any addictions to cigarettes, drugs or alcohol, please make sure you let your health professionals know so that they can include that in the chemical aspect of your health.
Structural: This is where your immune system plays a part in your overall wellbeing and is also significant with pain onset depression and anxiety. I recommend Chiropractic, Occupational Therapy, Acupuncture, Physiotherapy, Remedial Massage,
Bowen Therapy or Bio-resonance Therapy (use this therapy especially to investigate parasites and food intolerances). Special note on the Chiropractic: if you can find a Chiro who does Applied Kinesiology and Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET) you are on a winner.
Emotional: Emotional Strength Training, Reiki and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), add in here the NET I just mentioned too.
I wish you every success on your journey to a full life, well lived.
