We hear so much about transformation and empowerment, especially in personal development circles. What does it all really mean? And will it truly stick? These were questions I asked ages ago, but the most important question that tipped off this journey was: “Are you happy?” The question was asked by my best friend who I’ve known virtually my entire life. She can read me like a book, so spewing a half truth was not an option. She would see it all over my face. I sighed and answered truthfully, “No.”
By societal standards, it looked like I had an amazingly empowered life. I had the glamorous, executive job, the boyfriend that looked great on paper, the ocean front apartment and a jet-setting, luxurious life style. Underneath it, though, I was miserable. I was completely ignoring the needs of my spirit. I’d feel my soul nudging me and I’d ignore it. I knew that I was living an inauthentic life.
The truth of the matter was the job was not glamorous. It was a soul sucking one-hundred hour a week nightmare that left me exhausted, anxious and barely eating. My relationship also was a lonely farce. It looked great on paper, but we barely spoke and when we did, it wasn’t kind and loving. I was drowning in debt, spending too much money on shopping sprees to make myself feel better, creating even more financial burden.
It all came crashing down in one fell swoop. Like a chain reaction of teetering dominoes, I watched my life collapse over the span of a few short weeks. As I sat in the rubble mourning the loss of everything, I knew I had a choice. I could sit and wallow or I could pick myself up and look at the opportunity opening up before me. This was a chance to start a new, authentic life. A chance to be true to me. To stand in my power, to love myself, and just be.
Growing up as a Type-A, overachiever, perfectionist, hard driver and an obsessive problem solver, I knew this change to a more allowing, peaceful, connected me wasn’t going to be easy. I realized I had to use avenues I had originally shrugged off.
As my path started to unfold organically, I learned to trust myself, my intuition, and the nudges from spirit and the Universe. I was amazed at how things fell into place. My life was starting to transform and become something so much more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. In time, I saw heart-warming rewards. I got my health back, I built a business that I love where I work less hours and live in abundant prosperity. And the biggest bonus of all was finding the love of my life—an amazing man who loves me for exactly who I am.
In my process, I took notes. A writer by nature, I’m grateful I journaled about every high and low I went through. Every trial and error. Every victory and failure—all in there. I started to see a pattern and from that pattern I created the ACCEL method for transformation.
ACCEL is merely an abbreviation for the Italian word “accelerando,” meaning the gradual increasing of speed. To me that translates as acceleration and momentum, attributes we all need when we are looking to transform our lives and step authentically into our power.
Here are the 4 steps to transform your life using ACCEL:
Authenticity is the gold that pulls you into alignment with your soul automatically. For me, I spent too many years as a people pleaser, holding my tongue and fulfilling the agendas of others, not my true heart’s desires. Authentic living is the impetus to transformation in all areas of your life. When you are living authentically, it’s easier for your energy to go into alignment and that’s when miracles start happening. Being true to yourself frees up so much energy to live happier, to experience the world in a whole new way, and share more of yourself with those who see and honor the you without the mask.
2. Clarity and Creation
It’s absolutely vital that you are clear on what you want to create and manifest for your life. Most of us do know this on a soul level, however, more often than not, we don’t take the time to turn inward to find it. The more clarity you can get, the easier the path becomes. You step into flow instead of trying to swim upstream. From flow we can powerfully create.
When we create from a place that’s wholly our own authentic expression, we are in abundance energy. When we create from the seat of our soul, we are opening the door to transforming into our highest and best self. We are all blessed with talents and gifts that are unique to us. It’s our mission to create and share them with the world. Not only does this raise the vibration of our planet and countless others, it pulls in the magic.
When I first realized excellence was part of this journey, I got excited and started sliding back into my overachiever, perfectionist ways. Nope. That’s not what it’s about. Excellence is about being the best version of yourself, not to compete with others, but to be exactly as you are, to accept where you’re at. Without this acceptance, it’s impossible to take the steps necessary to flow into excellence. There may be days where you feel you missed the mark and that’s ok. If you made your very best effort, then that’s excellence. As you work this muscle it will get stronger and your new standard of excellence will start to develop and reflect in your life.
4. Let It Go
When we set our intentions, often we start trying to figure out how to move things forward, especially if we’re not seeing any kind of result yet. This actually moves us away from our inner power and slows down our transformation. Letting go is the most crucial and most difficult step.
Letting go does not have to mean giving up, letting go means surrendering. You’re releasing your intention out to the Universe so that you can receive the most magnificent outcome. The Universe is limitless and has solutions that can make our process so much easier and quicker! We won’t receive these blessings, though, until we let go and trust that we will be guided. You may receive a nudge to take action or you may receive a nudge to wait. Regardless, in letting it go, we let ourselves grow.
Transformation isn’t always easy, but I can assure you it is absolutely worth it. Standing in your authentic self, spirit-led, self-aligned, and embracing all the good meant for you, is one of the best feelings you can have. It just takes steps. It takes time. It takes patience, but you will get there. All it takes is a little desire and a whole lotta practice. Use the ACCEL steps and build up your momentum. Embrace your journey and love the blossoming of your authentic power.
