You know it's true...
You want to start a healthy lifestyle…
You’ve learned that diets don’t work and a long-term healthy lifestyle is better…
This often means you’ll have to cut out the unhealthy foods you love and begin a rigorous exercise plan, right?
That is…if you have the will to cut out all the foods you love right away, start an exercise plan and most important…STICK to it for the rest of your life…then go for it! You’ve got it figured out and this blog post isn’t for you. However, if this isn’t manageable for you, please read on (you may like a different point of view)…
If you’re like me, the thought of immediate and drastic change is overwhelming and impacts the entire family. Drastic has never worked for me and it negatively impacts everyone else close to me…especially my children. Sometimes, baby steps are necessary and dare I say, better?

something bigger and better than your current situation.” –Brian Tracy
The steps you decide to take to improve your health are the habits you create. Good healthy habits are for the long-term and not temporary. Healthy habits are your biggest ally and your bad habits–your greatest roadblocks. A student of the law of attraction, action (habits) matched with positive thought and feeling is key to achieving success…no matter what you are wanting to achieve.
Figuring out what helped me feel better about each new healthy habit felt so much better than starting off the bat with cutting/removing/tossing/stopping/replacing (none of these action words promote positive feelings). In fact, for me…it evoked quite the opposite of good feeling.
So how did I create new healthy habits with less stress and manage to safely lose nearly 70lbs? Here it is…achieving good results in my journey to health was simply to ADD MORE FOOD to my diet.
That’s right….MORE FOOD! This is brilliant…so stick with me if you’re interested…
The idea of cutting things out and creating multiple new (unnatural) habits and managing my family was too much…and frankly, unrealistic. But, if you’re like me, then feeling good about changing the way we look at a healthy lifestyle may be the key to your success, too. Does it feel good to you to add MORE foods?
A few rules apply…
The addition of foods must qualify as healthy and unprocessed, organic and non-GMO (if you can find it) and something you can add to your menu every single day. That’s right…EVERY DAY. This is important because new (healthy) habits are created by doing…and doing it every day (not on occasion), EVERY DAY…because you want to build the momentum of health as quickly as possible.
The best and NUMBER ONE new habit I added was drinking hot lemon water. Easy, right? It was different…and it worked.
Benefits of hot or warm lemon water (as I experienced):
- It’s a natural immune booster keeping you healthy. Since starting this habit back in 2008, I can only recall one cold and cough that required a doctor’s attention. Great improvement!
- Drink it first thing in the morning and it will naturally stimulate your digestive tract–removing toxins.
- It keeps your skin looking healthy and clear (it’s loaded with vitamin C).
- It balances the PH level in your body (important to fighting cancers).
- Drink before a meal and curb your appetite!
- Go for the lemon water first when you have a sugar craving and you’ll likely forget about that candy bar in the pantry.
There is very little downside that I experienced with this addition. I would encourage you to rinse your mouth after drinking lemon water to avoid enamel erosion.
By changing the way I looked at health and choosing to welcome all that felt good opened a continued flow of inspiration to add more and do more by way of new and healthy habits minus the stress of cutting out what you love.
Because lemon water was one (of the many) excellent healthy additions that has stood the test of time, it naturally led to the desire (not the heartache) of cutting other things out because I was enjoying the new things even more than the old bad habits. BINGO! Read that again…
Create new good and healthy habits and you’ll notice some of the other older (not so healthy) habits naturally drop off.
Health and weight loss wasn’t overnight…but neither was the weight gain.
Consistent, purposeful and positive actions transform…expanding your own positive energy AND attracting more of the same.
Are you ready for life-changes for your greatest and highest good? What can you add every single day? Lemon Water? Plain water? Spinach Salad? Berries? Nuts? Seeds? Walking? Meditation?
Once your new habit becomes a part of who you are, move on to the next thing you want to add…and so on…and so on.
There’s a bonus…
Over time, you’ll notice the people you love around you will also pick up on the habits and embrace some of them, as well.
Find a nugget of wisdom that inspires you to do something (anything) leading you to your greatest and highest good…and living a quality of life that includes more energy, better health, clarity and inspiration.

otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.” ~Buddha
